Susilo's iN!

"7 June 2006, Singapore - In the end it all came good for Ronald Susilo in the Aviva Singapore Open 2006 at the Singapore Indoor stadium last night.

The Singapore player, who celebrated his 27th birthday yesterday, defeated Malaysia's Kuan Beng Hong in their first round encounter in three games to book his place in the next round against Austria's Juergen Koch tonight.

It was a hard fought match, taking 50 minutes to complete. Ultimately, it was Susilo who won 21-16,18-21,21-16.

The pre-match prediction was in the Malaysian's favour for several reason. For one, he was a seeded player (no.8 i heard). Secondly, Susilo had not played top-flight competitive badminton for a long time since his Achilles heel operation eight months ago.

But Susilo started well last night and looked the more composed player as he took the first game 21-16. There was a fight back from Kuan, the quarter-finalist here two years ago, in the second set. However, when it came down to the crunch, Ronald was up to it and he went to carve out a 21-16 victory to book his place in the next round. "
